- Terminal orientation: Oval capacitors often have terminals arranged differently than round ones, which can affect how much slack you have in the existing wire leads.
- Cabinet depth: Oval capacitors are sometimes shorter in one dimension, which matters in tight cabinets where the round equivalent simply won't clear the access panel.
If you're not sure which shape your unit originally used, the safest move is to match the failed part's shape and dimensions, not just its electrical specs. When in doubt, round is the more universal option if your bracket allows it — it's typically available in more MFD combinations.

- Voltage rating (370V or 440V — never downgrade)
- Terminal configuration (single, dual, or triple run)
